BATHGATE boss Bob Main is confident his side can bounce back from last weekend’s “blip” when they travel to meet Penicuik tomorrow.
Bathgate’s first defeat of the season, a 3-1 home reverse against Jeanfield Swifts, saw tomorrow’s opponents leapfrog them to the top of the Premier League table.
Main insists his team will be ready for the challenge provided by Craig Meikle’s troops as the top two clash at Penicuik Park.
“Penicuik are top because they are a good side but we feel we are a good side as well, so if we both turn up for the game then the supporters are in for a good afternoon,” said Main.
“Every team has a blip during the season. Penicuik had one on the opening day (losing to Kirriemuir Thistle) and we had one last Saturday.
“Hopefully, that’s it out of the way now. Everybody is fit and ready for the game.”
Tomorrow’s match sees the top scorers in the league – Bathgate with a stunning 32 goals in seven games – take on a Penicuik defence whose seven goals conceded is the lowest in the league.
Penicuik boss Meikle has seen some Jekyll and Hyde performances from his team this term and is keen for his side to keep their standards high for the full 90 minutes.
He said: “They have the best scoring record in the league while we have the best defensive record – but it’s how we play on the day that matters.
“We’ve had some bad 45 minutes and some great 45 minutes so far.
“I don’t know a great deal about Bathgate because I’m not one for worrying a lot. I’m more concerned about how we play. We have a very good squad to choose from and on their day we’ll compete with anyone.
“We feel we can outgun any side we face.
“We have the good start to the season I wanted even after our opening-day defeat and that’s gives us a platform.
“Obviously, we’re looking to win the title but, if not, then promotion.”
