Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale coach Steven McKenzie revealed Berwick Rangers were highly complimentary of his side’s performance as they were edged out 4-3 on penalties in the final of the East of Scotland Cup at Shielfield Park.

Although Kevin Swain was forced into a couple of point-blank saves by Colin Cameron’s SPFL League Two side, Lothian’s Scott Gormley and Scott Moffat both went close.

After a goalless extra time, Eddie Mearns and Willis Hare missed their spot-kicks in the shoot-out, David Banjo netting the decisive penalty for Rangers.

“We were very unlucky over the course of the 90 minutes, we competed well and it’s a good indicator for the boys ahead of the Scottish Cup game with Montrose coming up,” said McKenzie.

“They were very complimentary to us afterwards and that’s always good to hear from a side who are playing at a higher level.”
