Brian Johnston expects tough test as Ormiston face Peebles

League leaders Ormiston travel to second place Peebles Rovers in the Central Taxis First Division tomorrow with Ormiston manager Brian Johnston expecting a tough encounter.

Both sides are in good form with John O’Hara’s Peebles undefeated since an East of Scotland cup defeat to Lowland League Selkirk in August. They are also in the final of the Alex Jack Cup next month when they face Leith Athletic at Innerleithen.

Ormiston ran Peebles close two months ago in a midweek 3-2 league defeat, but Johnston believes his side have improved since then.

“We actually played really well in that game, taking the lead but then just conceding some sloppy goals. They are a very good side and we are under no illusions that we’ll be facing a side full of confidence.

“We played Leith Athletic during the week in a friendly and it gave me a chance to look at some players who didn’t figure against Hawick last weekend. Squad depth is very important at this level as you can’t name the same eleven every week, so some of the guys who played midweek are in my thoughts for tomorrow,” added Johnston.

Jordan Mack is the only man missing for Ormiston’s trip to Whitestone Park, after picking up a red card in last weekend’s convincing 7-1 triumph over Hawick.

Heriot-Watt University face managerless Burntisland Shipyard in tomorrow’s other fixture at Riccarton Campus.

Both matches kick off at 2.30pm.
