Gary Jardine has once again looked to the Hibs youth ranks to bolster his Edinburgh City squad with the capture of teenage defender Ryan Porteous.
Porteous, 17, joins the League Two club on a a development loan until January after facing them as a second-half substitute in Hibs’ 6-1 friendly win at Meadowbank last Thursday. Porteous, awarded a full-time academy contract with the Hibees towards the end of last season, will still be eligible to turn out for his parent club’s Under-20 squad in the SPFL Development League.
It’s a market that has served Jardine well in the past with Aaron Dunsmore’s spell on loan at Meadowbank last season helping City to promotion while former East Mains academy graduate Neil Martynuik signed permanently for the Black and Whites in the summer.
“Ryan really impressed me when I saw him in action for Hibs’ Development team last season,” said Jardine.
“The fact that he has featured in the first-team squad in their pre-season friendlies against Berwick Rangers and ourselves shows how highly the management team at Easter Road rate him.”
