Whitehill WELFARE have signed former Spartans defender Danny O’Donnell following his departure from Ainslie Park last week.
O’Donnell spent 13 seasons with the North Edinburgh club, making over 350 appearances and will now link up with former Spartans boss Mickey Lawson again at Ferguson Park.
Lawson was pleased to able to strengthen the defensive options in his squad, telling the club’s website: “We’ve just lost Stuart McLaughlin, and Conan McDiarmid was down in Leeds yesterday finding out he’s to work every second Saturday so Danny’s signing couldn’t have come at a better time. He signed then trained with us on Wednesday night at Lasswade.
“Danny just wants to play football and given his service to Spartans, they magnanimously released him from his contract rather than looking for a transfer fee. I’m sure they’d rather he didn’t end up at Meadowbank or Ferguson Park but they’ve been true to the player and for that they should be applauded.”
