Gretna 2008 halt Preston’s good run

Have your say

PRESTON Athletic’s recent run of good results came to an abrupt halt when they were beaten 4-1 at home by Gretna 2008 who now sit fourth in the Central Taxis Premier Division.

Gretna were more clinical in front of goal although Preston could have taken the lead when Conor Smith hit the post with a shot from the edge of the penalty box before Robbie Arthur had an effort well saved by James Greenall.

Gretna took the lead seven minutes before half-time through Joseph Slattery. Two minutes later a long ball was headed on to Slattery who beat a defender to score again.

Adam Main volleyed home midway through the second half to make it 3-0 and Adam McMath completed the scoring for Gretna before Chris Inglis notched a late consolation.

David Bingham, the Preston manager, said: “If you defend like we defended you will not win many games.”

Elsewhere, in the First Division, Leith Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw by ten-man Peebles Rovers who had Greg Shortreed sent off after only six minutes.

Tonight, Vale of Leithen host Premier Division title challengers Whitehill Welfare at Victoria Park, kick-off 6.45pm and Ormiston host Craigroyston in the First Division, (6.45pm). An East of Scotland League Select Team play the Scottish Universities at Riccarton (7.30pm).
