Willie Kirk took charge of Preston Athletic for the first time, but it was the visitors who came away with the points and condemned the Panners to a tenth straight defeat in all competitions.

Former Hibs Ladies manager and an ex-Preston player Kirk certainly had his new charges fired up as Preston more than matched their opponents in the first period. And they should have been two up within the first 20 minutes as first Sean Martin fired over from three yards out with an empty goal at his mercy after great work by Ryan Moore before Moore himself dragged an effort wide of the post with only the keeper to beat. Gretna then took the lead on 30 minutes when ’keeper John Gilbertson misjudged the flight of a deep cross and parried the ball into his own net.

Chances were few and far between in the second half but Gretna’s Brandon Longcake drove in their second on 65 minutes.
