Heriot-Watt head coach Chris Smith was far from pleased with his side’s performance despite a 1-0 win at Kelso United on Saturday which keeps them in the First Division promotion mix.

A first-half goal from Andrew Forbes was enough for the students to record their fourth straight victory.

But Smith felt his side let themselves down on an individual level and believes they have to learn to develop to tactical changes during games.

“We had to change from our 4-1-4-1 to a 4-4-2 because of the heavy pitch and we struggled to impose ourselves on the game, we have to press the game a lot better from the midfield and we struggled to do that,” said Smith.

“We had to grind it out in the end but nevertheless with Ormiston and Duns both losing it was a stroke of luck for us.”

Smith who will be without Cammy Stevenson for tomorrow night’s match with Duns at Riccarton (7.30pm k-o), after a late red card although Sean Muhsin is expected to return.

Ormiston’s promotion aspirations suffered a setback with a 1-0 defeat at Hawick Royal Albert thanks to an early goal from Scott Watson. “It was a bad day at the office; nothing just seemed to go in,” said Ormiston Brian Johnston. Peebles Rovers, who remain unbeaten, are now six points clear at the top.
