Heriot-Watt University will play Stirling University in the final of the Queen’s Park Shield after beating Edinburgh University 5-4 on penalties in the semi-final at Riccarton.
The Capital derby finished 1-1 in normal time, with Cameron Dunn giving Watt the lead with an 18-yard finish in the 43rd minute before Luke Murray equalised with a 40-yard free kick right on half time.
The tie went straight to penalties at the end of 90 minutes and Heriot Watt scored all five of their kicks, while keeper Craig Saunders saved Dan Ward’s effort to secure victory.
Heriot Watt will now meet Stirling in the final next Wednesday.
Head coach Chris Smith said: “It’s been a tough last few weeks and this result gives us something positive to build on.
“The boys stepped up when they needed to at the penalties so, overall, I am happy.”
