Hibs Ladies manager Chris Roberts is looking forward to returning to his former club Boroughmuir Thistle in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.
“Boroughmuir was where I started coaching, I was the assistant when they were in the premier division a few years ago. It was a privilege to work with them and I know they’re in a bit of a rebuilding process.
“We did really well. We got into the top flight and then all of our better players got picked up by bigger sides and we didn’t have enough players to field a team one year. Unfortunately we didn’t have a youth side to promote and we folded.
“They’re probably the second biggest football club for woman’s football in the whole of Scotland, they have a lot of talented youth players and a lot of girls playing at club level so for them it will be a good experience for their seniors to get a game against us.
“It will be a big jump for them but we’ll respect them, we played them a few years ago in the cup and they gave us a tough game so we have to take it seriously. They’re in a really good place at the moment and I expect them to be a top flight club in the next five years or so.”
Roberts is also hoping the game against Boroughmuir will be a good run out for his side as they look to claim silverware against Glasgow City next week in the final of the SWPL Cup.
“We’ve got our full squad to choose from including our reserves because they’re not in the Scottish cup this year, but due to the international break this is our only game in the two weeks of building up to the final so we need to give the starters a run out to get prepared.”
The other Edinburgh sides are also in Scottish Cup action this week as Spartans host SWPL 2 table toppers Hamilton Academical, while Hearts play St Rochs and Hutchison Vale face off against Edinburgh Caledonia.
