The visitors made the brighter start, taking the lead after only five minutes of Preston’s final group match in the Qualifying League Cup. Ross Aitchison picked up the ball in the Preston half and powered forward to hit a 20 yard shot into the top corner.

Preston got back on level terms after 36 minutes through Sean Martin. Robbie Arthur played the ball through and Martin blasted it past Tansey into the far corner of the net.

Preston’s Arthur was then brought down in the box. He stepped up to take the spot kick but it came back off the right post and was cleared to safety by the Strollers’ defence. That miss was to prove costly as the visitors regained the lead on 66 minutes when a corner from the right was powered home from the head of Sommerville.

Preston pushed for the equaliser but it was Strollers who scored again through Craig Pinnons. Preston pulled one back with three minutes to go when Arthur was again brought down in the box. This time Martin took responsibility and slammed the ball home.
