Edinburgh City dropped the first points of the season as they needed a last-minute Fraser Paterson goal to grab a share of the spoils.

Honours were even in a goalless first half, Gair and Allum seeing long-range shots cleared for corners, while Jones and Geddes came close for Stirling.

In 52 minutes, Gair was barged off the ball but the referee waved play on and Stirling forced a corner on the right. Gary Crooks lofted the ball towards the back post and the unmarked Jack Nixon headed in from six yards out.

City fell back into defence as the students pressed for another goal. Kelly came closest for the home side in 80 minutes with a low shot from 20 yards which Stobie did well to hold.

City gained the upper hand in the closing spell and with a minute to play Fraser Paterson headed in a Dunn free-kick from short range, but the Capital side’s joy at maintaining their unbeaten streak was dampened when striker Ross Allum received a straight red card for what was described as “over-exuberant celebration”.
