Leith Athletic boss Derek Riddel hopes for a second win of the campaign over city rivals Tynecastle to propel his side into the latter stages of the Image Printers East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.
Riddel takes his team to Fernieside on third-round duty looking for his first win of 2014. His charges followed a 3-3 draw with Spartans a fortnight ago with a hard-fought stalemate against Craigroyston last weekend, with the manager taking heart from his players’ effort.
“We travel to Fernieside on the back of two draws and two completely different performances,” said Riddel. “We didn’t play as well as we could against Spartans but, against, Craigroyston we dominated for long spells without scoring.”
Meanwhile, despite boasting an unbeaten record since taking the reins from Grant Carnie at Premier Division club Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale, Kevin Twaddle knows only too well the pitfalls of facing lower-ranked teams in cups. He acknowledges that his players must approach their second round home tie with First Division outfit Peebles Rovers as they have done recent successful meeting with top-tier teams.
Twaddle said: “With playing a lower-division team in the cup, it will be up to our guys to work in the same way they have done to achieve a good result.”
