Preston Athletic boss David Bingham has “renewed optimism” for a season in which he believes his team can be a more consistent proposition.

The former Dunfermline, Livingston, Inverness and Gretna player felt that last term was badly disrupted by injuries and suspensions. “We were also very inconsistent,” added Bingham, whose side host Gala Fairydean Rovers in tomorrow’s opener. “The boys have impressed me in pre-season. We can’t match some other teams in this league in terms of budgets available but we are certainly up for the challenge.”

Bingham, who will be assisted by Bob Baillie after Stevie Adamson stepped down, has signed Jack Bruce, Jamie Todd and Declan Fergus, all from Lochend Under-21s. “They showed me enough in pre-season to convince me that they will be very good assets. I have also signed the experienced Peter Gilhooley, while George Cunningham, a local Prestonpans lad, has showed promise.”
