Preston secured three points at Threave Rovers after a dominant display that wasn’t fully reflected in the final 1-0 scoreline.

The first chance of the match saw Jamie Beaton collect a short corner and cross for Taylor Aitchison to volley over. Liam Todd then threaded a neat ball to James Martin who shot just over before Chris Moffat volleyed over from close range. Threave’s best chance came as Dean Fyve sent over a pin-point cross onto the head of Irving but he tamely headed into Flockhart’s arms. On the half hour a free kick by the corner flag was crossed into the area by Jamie Beaton and was met by Moffat to tap home from close range, the defender’s second goal in a few days. Preston controlled the second half and on another day James Martin could have scored a hat-trick but was unable to find a finish. Threave were relying on the huge kicking of their goalkeeper Nikola Rajovic but the Preston defence dealt with it comfortably.

Preston Athletic: Flockhart, L.Todd, Baillie, Manson, Moffat, J.Todd, Aitchison, Beaton, McGonigal, M.Todd, Martin. Subs: McSherry, Page, Morrison, Coull, Nicholson, Gilchrist, Porcher.

• Late goals earn Whitehill 2-0 win at Vale of Leithen

Two stunning late goals from Sean Wringe and Callum Connolly broke Vale of Leithen’s resistance in new manager Mike Lawson’s first game in charge. It was a first half of little note with Connar Easton in the Welfare goal parrying a goal-bound effort and Ross Nisbet just managed to clear the rebound. Whitehill threatened twice just before half time with Jamie Devlin travelling 80 yards down the left before crossing for Wringe who found the side netting. Devlin then again beat his man down the left and fired just over the crossbar. Both sides again found it difficult to find any real momentum after the break. However, with ten minutes remaining, Wringe found space 30 yards from goal and struck a controlled volley over the keeper and high into the net. And, with the game into injury time, Connolly drove forward down the right, cut inside and hit an unstoppable shot into the top left corner to seal the win for visitors Whitehill.
