Spartans capitalised on results elsewhere to cut the gap at the top of Lowland League with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Selkirk at Ainslie Park last night.
A Keith McLeod double, and strikes from Errol Douglas, Willie Bremner and a Sean Guiney own goal gave Dougie Samuel’s men their first win in three games. Phil Addison netted a consolation for the visitors. Edinburgh Uni were brought down to earth following their own 5-1 victory at the weekend. Two goals from Dean McColm and further efforts from Daryl Devlin and Stuart Noble meant Gala Fairydean Rovers ran out 4-0 winners at Netherdale.
Preston Athletic’s poor run of form continued with a 3-1 reverse at home to Threave Rovers. Jason Stevens, Josh Morris and Chris Anderson found the net before Jack McIntyre’s late consolation for David Bingham’s men.
