Penicuik Athletic could be rewarded with a home quarter-final tie against Scottish Junior Cup favourites Bo’ness United if they win this weekend’s fifth-round replay away to Irvine Meadow.
Bo’ness have still to play their fifth-round tie away to either Girvan or Rutherglen Glencairn, but the possibility of a home tie against the East Super League challengers would be a potential money-spinner for the Midlothian outfit, with a bumper crowd expected.
Promotion-chasing Penicuik would relish the test against a team of Bo’ness’ calibre, with the two sides likely to meet in the Super League next season.
Penicuik boss Craig Meikle said: “Obviously, we have a job to do against Irvine Meadow but the opportunity to play Bo’ness is at the back of your mind. At home and with our crowd behind us, who knows where that could lead us? There could be a big delay, though, because the Girvan-Rutherglen game has still to be decided followed by the winners meeting Bo’ness.”
Quarter-final draw: Cumnock v Glenafton Athletic, Irvine Meadow/Penicuik v Girvan/Rutherglen Glencairn or Bo’ness United, Camelon/Sauchie v Whitletts Victoria and Dundonald Bluebell v Hurlford United (ties to be played on Saturday, March 15
