EAST KILBRIDE got the better of Preston Athletic for the second time this season in a close-fought Lowland League battle at the Pennypit, which ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

Jordan McDonald grabbed his first goal for the visitors right on the stroke of half-time. Michael Osborne pulled Preston level ten minutes after the restart, but the home side, who were without strikers Sean Martin and Gary McCormack, fell to a fine Kevin Wilson strike 12 minutes from time.

Preston had a great chance to take the lead in the 45th minute when Cherrie played a through ball to Morrison, who managed to get in front of his marker but fired straight at the keeper from point-blank range.

That wasn’t to be the last action of the first half, as two minutes into additional time the visitors took the lead. Atha weaved his way into the box and the ball fell to Jordan McDonald, who drilled the ball into the net from ten yards out.

Preston’s equaliser came in the 58th minute. The home side were awarded a free-kick ten yards from the box and Osborne managed to dispatch Dale O’Hara’s inswinging free-kick into the net from a tight angle.

Just two minutes after equalising, the Panners were then gifted a chance when Philp fired straight at a grateful Meldrum with the goal gaping.
