HEARTS drew the plum tie of the Scottish Cup fourth round when they were paired with Premiership champions Celtic at Hampden Park this afternoon.
Hibs were drawn away to the winner of the Ayr United v Alloa third-round replay, while Spartans’ reward for beating Barry Ferguson’s Clyde is a home tie against Morton or Airdrie.
Memories of last year’s match with Celtic at the same stage of the same competition will not be pleasant for Hearts fans. Their team lost 7-0 that afternoon but will be confident of giving a better account of themselves this year after exiting administration and rebuilding their squad.
Hibs face a tricky journey to Ayr or Alloa. They lost to Ayr in the 2011 Scottish Cup but beat United the following year on their way to the final.
Spartans sprung a shock at the weekend with a 2-0 win over League Two side Clyde and were handed a home tie against a League One club as they attempt to continue their Scottish Cup run. Junior club Bo’ness United will face Arbroath if they can beat Elgin City in their third-round replay.
