Spartans won an enthralling Lowland League encounter 4-3 against Edinburgh University at Peffermill.
Ross Gray drilled a low cross into the path of Aaron Murrell on the quarter-hour mark to allow the young striker to open the scoring for the visitors.
Scott McRory-Irvine equalised in the 34th minute and then an acrobatic Jack Guthrie effort 60 seconds later put the Students ahead. Murrell equalised with a penalty two minutes before the interval.
Spartans restored their lead in the 72nd minute when Michael Herd’s header fell into the path of his namesake Bruce, who slid home. That lead was further extended when Keith Murray set up David Greenhill to score from close range.
Murray was shown a second yellow with three minutes to go and although Duncan Black’s injury time header reduced the Students’ deficit, it was too little too late.
Spartans will look to extend their seven-match unbeaten run at Whitehill Welfare tonight (6.30pm).
