Spartans got their Ferrari Packaging Lowland League campaign off to a flying start tonight with a 3-0 victory over Stirling University at the Falkirk Stadium.
The visitors fully merited the three points against Shelley Kerr’s outfit and will head into next weekend’s Capital derby with Edinburgh University in buoyant mood.
Alan Brown thought he had given Spartans a fourth-minute lead but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Jamie Dishington then brought out a tremendous fingertip save from the Uni No.1 just four minutes later as Dougie Samuel’s side continued to press for the opener.
Scott Maxwell finally put the Ainslie Park club ahead eight minutes before the interval though when he finished with precision from the edge of area.
Spartans doubled their advantage right on the stroke of half-time when Dishington powered home an Andrew Mair cross.
The hosts tried their utmost to find a route back into the game after the break but found goalkeeper Blair Carswell equal to the challenge.
David Greenhill completed the formalities two minutes into stoppage time as he poked home from a couple of yards out after substitute Chris Townsley’s initial effort had been blocked on the line.
