Spartans can guarantee their qualification from Central Section B in the Lowland League Cup with a home win against BSC Glasgow tomorrow.

Successive wins against Edinburgh City and Whitehill mean Dougie Samuel’s men sit top of the four-team table with six points from six. Another win will see them go through as group winners, but a point could be enough.

The return of defender Ally MacKinnon will be welcome due to injuries for captain Kevin Sivewright and Mikey Bruce. MacKinnon missed last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Whitehill due to a wedding, while young goalkeeper Blair Carswell will deputise again should regular No.1 Kevin Swain fail to recover from an injury sustained in the warm-up last week.

Edinburgh University salvaged a point with a stoppage-time penalty at home to their fellow students from Stirling last time out, and make the short trip to the Pennypit to face Preston Athletic tomorrow. They will do so without suspended captain Duncan Black, who was dismissed in the second half of their clash with Stirling. Willie Kirk’s Panners have yet to play a Lowland League Cup fixture due to postponements.
