Spartans missed the chance to move up to fourth in the Lowland League after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Vale of Leithen last night.

Shaun Stevens, who netted a hat-trick last midweek in Vale’s 4-2 win at Whitehill, opened the scoring in the first half for the Innerleithen side.

Dougie Samuel’s men rescued a point with seven minutes remaining thanks to Errol Douglas’s header, the striker having returned from a recent month-long loan spell with Tynecastle.

Whitehill Welfare recovered form their weekend South Challenge Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Civil Service with a 2-0 win against Selkirk at Ferguson Park.

Aaron Somerville’s 32nd of the season and a Wayne McIntosh strike ensured Welfare picked up maximum points with manager Mickey Lawson on holiday.

Edinburgh City drew a blank in their Lowland League Cup Central section A tie against BSC Glasgow at Lochburn Park, which means the winners of Whitehill and BSC in the final match will qualify along with Spartans.
