Spartans Chairman Craig Graham is hoping for a bumper crowd as the Lowland League Champions look to knock-out a third successive league side and reach the quarter-finals of the William Hill Scottish Cup, writes ROSS PILCHER.
Berwick Rangers stand between Spartans and a place in the last eight, and Graham has urged the North Edinburgh community to turn out in numbers and roar Dougie Samuel’s team on.
“I’d love there to be 2000 there” he admitted. “I’m convinced there’ll be more than 1500. Berwick are only bringing a couple of hundred so if you compare that to other crowds in Scottish football, 1500-plus would be a fantastic turn out.
“We didn’t have the academy up and running when we’ve hosted these games before, so in terms of getting the whole of North Edinburgh behind us, it’s the biggest game for me.
“It’s also been really good fun. The cup has been in local primary schools and at our 2004/5s training this week – the pictures are absolutely superb.
“The last couple of weeks have been about having fun and enjoying something like this with the pressure off us. We’ve had a fantastic run to get this far.”
