Newtongrange consolidate their position at the top of the Super League with a 2-0 home win over Sauchie.
Sauchie survived an early scare when Sean Jamieson’s angled shot from the edge of the box crashed back off the bar. So, it was no surprise when the big striker got on the end of a sublime pass from Paul Tansey after 18 minutes to put Star ahead. It was only the wood-work that prevented Jordan Cropley, Chris King and Gary Cherrie from adding to that solitary first-half goal.
Sauchie started the second-half in much better fashion with a Dave Dunn corner flashing across the face of the goal with no takers.
As the home side again began to take control Sauchie were reduced to long-range efforts from Iain Syme and Gary Bonnes that never threatened Keiron Renton. Just on the hour a superb move involving Tansey and Jamieson put Cropley in the clear but the midfielder was denied by a last-ditch tackle from Steve Kiczynski.
The points were secured only two minutes later though when Cropley found himself clear and laid it on a plate for Jamieson to grab his brace as he lashed home from close range.
