Bo’ness captain Will Snowdon was delighted to beat Broxburn 1-0 and keep pace with leaders Bonnyrigg at the top of the Super League.

A superb solo effort from new signing Fraser Eddington was enough to give the home side three points in a match played in blustery conditions.

“It’s three points no matter how you get them,” said Snowdon. “It was a pretty scrappy game with not a lot of football played and probably not a good game for the supporters.

“There wasn’t a lot of chances created for either side so we’re just glad to have scored the goal that got the points that keep us at the top with Bonnyrigg. Bonnyrigg have a couple of games in hand on us but this win keeps the pressure on them.”

The howling wind and occasional driving rain made it a lottery on the pitch. Neither goalkeeper was troubled in the opening half hour but, on 35 minutes, Bo’ness struck.

Eddington collected the ball on the halfway line before driving at the visitors’ defence. His pace and control took him beyond the last man, Calum Rarity, and he was straight in on the goalkeeper. He kept his head and slid the ball into the net under the diving Gary Maley’s legs. A super solo goal and the only effort in a dire opening 45 minutes.

If the crowd were expecting an improvement on the first half, they soon discovered they were going to be disappointed. Again neither keeper was tested until late on when Nicky Walker tried his luck, the ball being blocked out to Mart Wright but his effort went in vain and Eddington’s follow-up went high and wide.

Broxburn boss Max Christie was left frustrated, saying: “We played all right in the first half but lost that goal. We needed someone who could control things better but we have to say it was a poor game for the punters who came here. I don’t think either keeper was really troubled.”
