Hutchison Vale 16s ran out South East Region Cup winners after beating Leith Athletic 3-0 at New Countess Park.
Three first half goals was enough to land them the trophy in what was an exciting and entertaining encounter.
The game initially took a while to get going as both sides sized each other up and didn’t commit too many players forward. But it was Hutchie who took the initiative and looked to attack in the 14th minute. Captain Cameron Begbie found the ball at his feet after a corner but he could only hit the ball over the bar.
This opportunity appeared to galvanise both teams as the game began to open up with Hutchie breaking the deadlock. A ball into the Leith penalty area was only half cleared and Ryan Fox punished the defence from close range.
One quickly became two as after the ball was whipped in and reached Begbie at the back post, the teenager knocked the ball back into the six yard box and there was Lewis Swaney to tap in with ease.
A nice finish from Ethan Hamilton then made it 3-0 after some good direct football from Vale. A long diagonal ball over the top by Swaney who, this time, turned provider and Hamilton was on hand to fire the ball on the half-volley past goalkeeper Aaron King.
Leith began the better side after half-time and looked keen to grab a foothold in the game. Marco McBride hit a great long range strike from 25 yards which almost opened their account but it was touched over comfortably by Jordan Pettigrewin the Hutchie goal.
But their on-field battle became even more difficult when Murray Scott was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Despite falling a player short, Leith continued to press looking to get on the scoresheet, but they just couldn’t find the breakthrough and they were almost caught out again when Hutchie broke on the counter.
Hamilton got on the end of a through ball and could have made it four. He cut inside the box and smashed a shot over the bar when passing to a team-mate might have produced a better outcome.
Leith almost grabbed a consolation goal late on when Bernard Dobrowolski got a head on the end of a Lee Thomson corner, but it was met by a good low save by Gibb down to his left.
