Tynecastle manager Steven Vinter insists his side will be doing all they can to spoil a potential East of Scotland title party at Saughton Enclosure tomorrow.
League leaders Leith Athletic are the visitors knowing they could be crowned champions should they avoid defeat and nearest challengers Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale, who travel across the city to in-form Civil Service Strollers, fail to match Leith’s result at the very least.
However, having dented Lothian’s hopes of catching Leith, who are six points clear at the top, with a 3-2 victory last weekend, Tynecastle coach Vinter is eyeing a quick-fire double over the division’s top two.
“I’m pretty sure Leith are going to win it but I would rather they didn’t win it at Saughton if I’m being brutally honest,” Vinter revealed. “We’ll be doing everything in our power to get the points ourselves. But, at the end of the day, I do feel Leith are the best side in the league and will be worthy champions.
“It won’t really be in our heads tomorrow as we’re just trying to pick up as many points as possible.
“It’s looking like we should finish fourth as we need Civil to drop points if we’re to have a chance of third. But I’m really happy with how the season has gone as it’s a completely new squad we’ve put together so it’s been a learning curve for the coaching staff too. It certainly bodes well for next season though.”
With only three league fixtures remaining, reigning champions Lothian are on the brink of relinquishing their grasp on the trophy and face difficult opposition in Civil at Christie Gillies Park tomorrow.
The hosts, meanwhile, are undefeated from their last 11 matches after Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw with Peebles Rovers.
Elsewhere, Craigroyston, who suffered a 4-2 loss at Tynecastle two days ago, travel to bottom-of-the-table Eyemouth United looking to put some gloss on what has otherwise been a rather disappointing campaign.
Ormiston, fresh from their 6-3 triumph over Duns on Wednesday night, will look for a similar outcome when they head to the Borders for the return fixture.
