Leith Athletic’s 12-match unbeaten run came to an end in the SFA South Region Challenge Cup as a late goal from former Hearts striker Kris O’Neill ensured a debut 2-1 win for new Coldstream manager Stephen Gibbard.
Mark Leslie put the Central Taxis Premier Division leaders ahead two minutes into the second half at a breezy Home Park, but their fellow Premier opponents netted two late goals from Sean Simpson and O’Neill.
Central Taxis First Division side Heriot-Watt University claimed the shock result in the competition as they defeated Lowland League side Gala Fairydean Rovers 3-0 at Netherdale.
The students took the lead after half an hour through Chris Donnelly’s spot-kick.
Second-half goals from Elliot Sutherland and Sean Mushin sealed the victory.
Craigroyston put up a spirited effort against Vale of Leithen at St Marks Park but lost 2-1 to the Lowland League side.
The visitors took the lead through Jason Stevens after ten minutes.
James Elliot was ordered off for the visitors ten minutes later for a high challenge, but Gary Aitchison’s side were unable to capitalise and Jack Blaikie netted from a free-kick on 71 minutes.
Chris Inglis got a goal back four minutes later but the home side were unable to draw level.
