The Capital’s Lowland League clubs involved in pre-season action at the weekend all fought back to chalk up victories.
Whitehill Welfare were impressive in their 5-2 victory over junior side and local rivals Penicuik Athletic at Ferguson Park.
John Hall sent the hosts on their way with a fine finish with his left foot but back came the visitors, with former Hearts man Neil Jancyzk restoring parity and then setting up Greg Ross to put Penicuik ahead.
However, Wayne McIntosh equalised from the spot before the interval and then he put Welfare back in front on the hour mark with a well-placed header.
Darren McGlashan and then Kerr Dodds, the latter taking his tally to seven in pre-season, settled things with a further two strikes.
Meanwhile, Edinburgh City came from a goal down to see off Tynecastle 2-1 at Saughton as firstly Mark Osborne and then Grant Vanson saw City prevail over lower league opposition.
Spartans also came through a tricky encounter, again recovering from a one-goal deficit to see off the Highland League’s Inverurie Locos 2-1 At Ainslie Park.
David Ross had the Highlanders in control at the break but a double from striker Willie Bremner in the second period gave Dougie Samuel’s men the victory.
