A WET afternoon did not deter Whitehill Welfare who beat East Kilbride 4-1 at home.
Whitehill started strongly and after Wayne McIntosh saw an effort go wide their early pressure finally told when Aaron Somerville played in Andrew Kidd who finished low to the keeper’s right from 12 yards out.
On 20 minutes McIntosh ploughed down the left hand side and his pin-point cross from out wide was met by the diving head of Somerville for Whitehill’s second.
East Kilbride tried to find a way back into the game and they had the ball in the net but only after the offside flag had already gone up.
The home side were dominant with McIntosh a constant danger and, with 31 minutes on the clock, he was adjudged to have been fouled in the box trying to head a Somerville cross and it was the latter who dispatched the resultant penalty emphatically. Five minutes before half-time Gary Graham sprung the offside trap for the visitors but his shot was saved by the feet of Bryan Young.
It was a tight opening to the second half with Kieran Daw unable to beat Young when played in on goal after 55 minutes and Kidd shooting wide from 40 yards a minute after.
On 63 minutes it was 4-0 when McIntosh burst through on goal and, after dancing past a couple of defenders, he found the back of the net.
Shortly after there was a huge shout for handball in the visiting penalty area but Gavin Thomson signalled that a shoulder had been used.
East Kilbride broke quickly and Graham looked certain to score however he saw his shot deflected wide.
With 79 minutes gone they finally got themselves on the scoresheet when Stephen Bronsky headed in a corner from the right leaving Young no chance.
The home side finished strongly though and both Danny Noon and Stuart McLaughlin went close.
