Tynecastle 15s tasted South East Region Cup success with two late goals as they edged past Armadale Calcio 2-0 in a closely-fought final at New Countess Park, Dunbar.
There was very little to separate the sides in a first half with a lack of goalmouth action as the two teams scrapped it out in the middle of the park.
But goals from Christopher Finnie and Kieran Somerville in the final ten minutes brought the cup back to Edinburgh for Tynie.
A bright start from their West Lothian opponents saw Kyle Wilson in the Tynie goal tested in the opening minute. Winger Baley Ferris ran free down the left, but he sent his effort straight into the hands of Wilson.
Tynie forced two corners in quick succession midway through the opening period, but nobody in their white away kit could capitalise.
The match was crying out for a goal and Tynie almost got it on 54 minutes. Midfielder Calum Page’s shot looked goalbound until Glen Mason threw himself in front of the effort to block.
Tynecastle were beginning to dominate and Somerville was well placed inside the area but he couldn’t hit the target.
The opener arrived on 70 minutes after some fine play down the right-hand side.
Matthew Dillon was instrumental in orchestrating the chance, cutting in from the wing before teeing up the onrushing Finnie, who hammered the ball into the roof of the net from just inside the box.
It was 2-0 just two minutes later after Somerville was brought down inside the area, referee Kevin Kyle pointing straight to the spot. The forward dusted himself down before putting away the penalty in style.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of Armadale, who could have fallen further behind after Craig Turnbull’s dangerous corner flashed across goal, but nobody could steer the ball home.
Ferris came close to a late consolation for Armadale with his strike from distance flashing just wide of the top corner.
