TWO Capital golf clubs are bracing themselves for big tournaments this weekend.
The cream of young Scottish golfing talent is heading to Swanston New for the SGU Junior Tour Under-14 and Under-16 events.
And, at Turnhouse, the South East District Open will bring the curtain down on this season’s SGU Men’s Order of Merit.
“We are delighted to be hosting the SGU Junior Tour and really looking forward to it,” said Swanston New club manager Mike Robson.
“I’d say it is easily the biggest event that has been staged at the club so it is an exciting prospect.”
A stroke-play tournament over 36 holes involving both boys and girls, it involves players from all over Scotland.
They include rising Peebles star Darren Howie, who is the backmarker off +1.3.
“I think they will all enjoy both the course and also the practice facilities, which are as good as any I’ve come across in all my years in golf,” added Robson.
A 72-hole event, the field at Turnhouse is headed by Drumoig’s Connor Syme, a member of the Scotland side that won the European Team Championship in Sweden earlier in the summer.
