TURNHOUSE-ATTACHED Duncan Stewart stormed home in 30 on Gullane No.3 to win the first Edinburgh & Alliance event of 2016.
Helped by an eagle at the par-5 14th, the former European Tour player fired a five-under-par 63 on the short but enjoyable East Lothian course.
He finished a shot ahead of Gullane trainee Marc Owenson, with Neil Henderson (The Renaissance) and Ross Munro (Duddingston) sharing third on 66.
Craigielaw’s Robert Pelling enjoyed a memorable debut as the new member claimed the John Glen Trophy as the day’s overall winner.
Playing off 12, he carded a net 62, beating Stewart, Baberton’s Ron Grant, James Silvestro (Dalmahoy) and Grant Skinner (Glencorse) all by a single shot. Top senior was Baberton’s Brian Chrystal with a 64 off 11 while top trainee was Cameron Donaldson from Craigielaw on 70.
The next event takes place at Goswick in Northumberland on January 27.
