Craigielaw’s Gabrielle MacDonald took pride of place as women golfers from the Lothians shone on three fronts at the weekend.
North Berwick’s Catriona Matthew finished joint-third in the LPGA Airbus Classic in Alabama.
Musselburgh’s Vikki Laing claimed a top-ten finish behind compatriot Kylie Walker in the LET’S Deloitte Ladies’ Open in Holland.
But 21-year-old MacDonald, delivered the victory, which came in the Scottish Women’s Championship at Prestwick, where she completed a fairytale week by beating Troon’s Connie Jaffrey at the 19th in the final.
“I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet,” she admitted. “To be Scottish champion feels pretty good, especially when I hadn’t gone into the event with any real expectations.”
“At the same time, though, I had quite a good feeling at the start of the week as I knew I was playing well.”
MacDonald’s success is the latest in a long line by Craigielaw players, both men and women, in the East Lothian club’s short existence.
