LESLEY NICHOLSON bridged a 12-year gap to regain the East Lothian Women’s Championship but isn’t tempted by a return to the Scottish scene.
The former LET player enjoyed her first notable win since being reinstated to the amateur ranks after making home advantage count to beat Gifford’s Mary Lou Renton by 6 and 5 in the final at Haddington. It was Nicholson’s third triumph in the event, having won it in 1999 and 2000, but she’s not getting carried away. “I did think about playing in some of the bigger events again, but I’ve been there and done it,” she said.
Nicholson’s success came a few days after she caught up with some of her former LET colleagues during a visit to the Ladies Scottish Open at Archerfield Links. “I’ve still got a lot of friends on Tour and it was good to have a blether with some of them,” she said.
Nicholson was pleased to see Carly Booth win that event, having been her captain at the 2009 Women’s Home Internationals. “Carly has huge talent – I was confident she would break through,” she said.
