EUROPEAN Senior Tour player Andrew Oldcorn notched a double-whammy in yesterday’s Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance event at Dunbar.

The Kings Acre man claimed the day’s overall prize, the Paterson Medal, and also secured the top scratch prize with his one-under-par 70 (34, 36). On a day when 110 players enjoyed a well-prepared course at the Open qualifying venue, Oldcorn finished a shot ahead of Elie’s David Patrick, who raced to the turn in 32 but took seven shots more coming home.

Third place went to Kingsknowe amateur Allyn Dick, whose 72 consisted of halves of 37 and 35. In the handicap category, Deer Park’s Andrew McLennan, playing off eight, and Glenbervie two-handicapper Thomas Wilson shared top spot with net 70s.

No less than seven players finished on 71 – Michael Carrigan (Greenburn), Gavin Clark (Duddingston), Ian Jeavons (Dunbar), Wilson Morton (Dunbar), Andrew Rothney (Deer Park), Peter Sewell (West Linton) and Andrew Wight (Glencorse).

Duddingston’s Iain Stavert claimed the senior spoils with a net 72.

The next event, at Glenbervie on March 14, is the last one prior to the end-of-season Alliance Championships at Gullane.
