Winterfield’s Graham Davidson cashed in on a rare poor performance by Keith Nicholson to reach tonight’s final of the Lothians Champion of Champions at Archerfield Links.
Davidson, bidding to repeat his 2008 win in the event, coasted to a 4&3 victory as Nicholson, representing both Haddington and Gullane, fell agonisingly short in his attempt to not only defend the title but win it for a sixth time.
Davidson’s opponent in the final is Niddry Castle’s Hugh Fraser, who triumphed by two holes in the end following a nip-and-tuck affair against Martin Hopley (Caermount).
Fraser won the 15th to get his nose in front at a crucial time, then sealed victory by winning the 18th as well.
In the Handicap Match Play event, the title shootout will feature Prestonfield’s Keith Robertson taking on John Watson from Brooomieknowe. Robertson never looked back after taking the first four holes as he crushed Gifford’s Joe Glancy 6&5 while Watson was steady in overcoming Iain Crichton (George Heriot’s FP) 4&3.
