Neil Fenwick is hoping some home comfort can help him make a Capital gain this week.
In a rare occurrence, the Edinburgh man is getting to sleep in his own bed for a tournament.
The new Simpson & Marwick Championship, an event on the PGA EuroPro Tour, gets under way tomorrow at Royal Burgess and Fenwick is heading into it in bullish mood following some eye-catching performances.
Since the end of May, he’s chalked up three top-four finishes on the third-tier circuit, most recently at The Carrick last week. It lifted him to 12th on the money-list and a strong second half of the season could see Fenwick secure a Challenge Tour card by getting into the top five.
“Last week was good,” said the former Dunbar assistant. “The course was playing very tough, it was very firm and fast and the rough was very tough.
“My game is coming on and I’m looking forward to a big week and home event this week.
“It will be good staying at home with family and friends and hopefully I can have a big week. I’m hopeful a win will come very soon. I’ll just keep working hard and hopefully it will take care of itself.”
Archerfield player Elliot Saltman, fifth on the money-list, is also in the field, as are both his brothers – Lloyd and Zack.
So, too, is former Craigielaw star Mark Hillson and host club amateur James Ross – former finalists in the Lothians Championship at neighbouring Bruntsfield Links. The £39,185 event carries a £10,000 first prize and entry is free.
