Musselburgh’s Lewis Bain defeated Kieran Cantley from Liberton 5&3 in the Lothians Boys Championship final at the Braids.

Bain was delighted with his win, saying: “Really chuffed with my win. I’ve been playing solid for the last few weeks and am glad that I could continue my good form and bring it into the championships.”

Bain started the final with birdies at the first and second to quickly establish a lead that he never let slip.

Cantley steadied the ship with a win at the third but after a half at the fourth, Bain pulled further ahead with birdies at the fifth and eighth to go to the turn four under par and four up.

A further birdie at the tenth established a five-hole lead but Cantley stuck in and won the 12th.

The 13th and 14th were then halved and the denouement came at the 15th when Cantley conceded to Bain, who was likely to hole for his sixth birdie of the evening.
