ARCHERFIELD ace Lloyd Saltman took route 66 to victory in the East Alliance event at the Glen.
The former Walker Cup star’s four-under effort secured the scratch spoils by a shot from both his younger brother Zack as well as Duddingston’s Ross Munro.
At one point it looked as though Saltman would become the latest player this season to do the double, but he was pipped for the Berwickshire Trophy by Dunbar’s Stuart Brown as he came in with a net 65.
In an event featuring 97 members, Saltman signed for seven birdies while Brown recorded five.
Second place in the handicap event went to Prestonfield six-handicapper William Laing with a 67, one less than Kingsknowe’s Donny Munro playing off three. The top trainee was Bathgate’s Louis Gaughan with a 72 while the senior prize went to Ron Grant from Baberton with a net 70 off six.
Shot of the day was produced by Gullane’s Gordon Bell, who aced the 180-yard fourth.
Drumpellier’s Ross Neil (458pts) still leads the scratch order of merit, followed by Gaughan (432.5) and the Renaissance Club’s Neil Henderson (418). Uphall’s Martin Rennie (131) is out in front in the handicap standings, with James Silvestro (Musselburgh) and Walter Forsyth (Peebles) leading the pursuit.
The next event is in the invitational better ball at Eyemouth in a fortnight’s time.
