The East Alliance ended a three-year losing streak with a 15-9 victory over their West counterparts.

The 70th annual match between the two teams was played on this occasion at Irvine Bogside, where East laid the foundations for their win with a 5.5-2.5 success in the morning foursomes. The triumph was then clinched with three games still to finish in the afternoon singles.

Scratch Order of Merit winner Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre) led the way for the pros in the singles with a thumping 7&6 win.

• Craigmillar double

Craigmillar Park have two players in the Midlothian Girls’ team for the Cuthbertson Cup at Craigielaw on Sunday.

Emma Morrison and Megan Linton are joined in the line-up by Eilidh Crawford (Kingsfield) and Alexandra Massey (Elie and Earlsferry), with Baberton’s Carys Irvine the first reserve.

Hosts East Lothian have Lauren Lee, Annabel Hosie, Sophie Bain and Catherine Milne in their line-up, with Grace Crawford in the reserve spot.

Craigielaw’s Grant Forrest is in the Lothians team to face Northumberland at Ponteland on Sunday week.

Set to join Forrest are Kieran Cantley and Anthony Blaney (both Liberton) Allyn Dick and Jordyn Rhind (both Kingsfield), Michael Bacigalupo (Longniddry), Callum Cochrane (Marriott Dalmahoy), Craig Deerness (Harburn), Chris Low (Tantallon), Stuart McLaren (Bruntsfield Links), Benn McLeod (Musselburgh) and Ross Thomson (Gullane).

• King Louis

Bathgate’s Louis Gaughan outshone more experienced players to finish as top Scot in the PGA EuroPro Tour’s Qualifying School in Surrey.

With rounds of 72, 69 and 71 for a four-under 212 total, Gaughan finished joint eighth in the 54-hole event at Frilford Heath.

Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills Golf Centre) tied for 22nd while Neil Henderson (Renaissance Club) and Zack Saltman (Archerfield Links) were in a share of 36th.
