A CLUB captain in the Lothians has chalked up a notable first after qualifying for the final of a prestigious PGA tournament.
Maureen Shanks, of West Lothian, is the first lady captain to achieve the feat in the Pro-Captain Challenge.
She joined forces with club pro Alan Reid to win the Scottish qualifier at Crail and the pair will now be heading to Turkey in November for a £25,000 final.
“I had no idea that was the case, so I’m really pleased,” admitted Shanks of her historic feat. “I’m glad I’ve got there with Alan as well.
“We tried last year as I was club captain then, too, but we didn’t quite make it.”
An eight-under-par 64 did the trick and Reid said of his nine-handicap playing partner: “Maureen had an excellent round. She was responsible for five birdies in all and more than played her part. For her to be the first lady captain in the final is a great achievement for the club.”
