New names are set to be inscribed on the main Murrayfield club championship trophies.

Teenager Andrew Ni won the men’s event for the first time, claiming the Birnam Trophy with a resounding 11&10 success over Stuart Macrae in the 36-hole final.

And there was also a maiden victory in the women’s event, where Caroline Johnstone beat Debbie Hay-Smith 6&5 to secure the Bilton prize.

It was a family affair in the junior girls’ event, which was won by Lauren Metcalf, who came out on top against younger sister Jemma at the 19th hole.

At Prestonfield, Arran McHardy claimed the crown for the third time in four years.

After being the leading qualifier, he rounded off a fine display by beating two-times winner Ronnie Farley in the final.
