Craigmillar Park’s Alex Robertson produced the day’s only sub-par effort at Duddingston to win the South East Edinburgh Winter League Individual Championship,
His three-under-par 69 helped Robertson finish five shots clear of the field in an event that also involved players from the host club, Liberton and Prestonfield.
Liberton’s Gary Scott and Murray Fraser from Prestonfield shared second on 72, a shot ahead of three players – Alan Banks (Duddingston), David Rennie (Liberton) and Ricky Myles (Prestonfield).
The efforts from Fraser and Myles helped Prestonfield secure the team honours, which was a measure of compensation for being pipped by Liberton in the title race. With an aggregate of 19-over, they finished eight shots ahead of both Duddingston and Liberton, with Craigmillar Park, despite Robertson’s heroics, bringing up the rear on 32-over.
In the junior event, the host club’s Alex Fotheringham claimed the scratch spoils with a 78 while the handicap prize went to Prestonfield’s Ivor Highley with his net 67 off 14.
Meanwhile, Gullane completed a clean sweep in this season’s East Lothian Winter League by winning the stroke-play title at the Glen. It followed earlier triumphs for Jeff Aitken’s team in both the league – they won ten out of ten – and the League Cup.
Elsewhere, Lothians won 7-3 at Kingsknowe in the first trial match of the new season.
Allyn Dick and Graham Fraser won for the hosts, for whom Justin White and Scott Knowles also secured halves.
But the Lothians secured victories through Benn McLeod, Gary Corrigan, Craig Deerness, Richard Gill, Duncan Martin and Thomas Beattie.
