EAST LOTHIAN duo Shaun McAllister and Zack Saltman both made regal starts at Prince’s in the EuroPro Tour’s season-ending event.

Matching five-under-par 67s at the Kent course left the pair in a four-way tie for second, two shots behind English leader Paul Grannell, in the 888poker.com Tour Championship.

Craigielaw’s McAllister signed for a flawless five-birdie effort while Archerfield’s Saltman bagged an eagle and three birdies.

Paul McKechnie, who is attached to the Braid Hills Golf Centre, also made a good start in his bid to stay in the top five in the Order of Merit. Needing to hang on to fifth place to earn a step up to the Challenge Tour next season, he carded a 69 to sit in a share of seventh.

In the Middle East, former Duddingston assistant pro Tom Buchanan was lying in a tie for 18th heading into today’s final round of the MENA Tour’s Ras Al Khaimah Classic at Tower Links Golf Club. Rounds of 73 and 71 left him on level-par – nine shots behind leader David Law from Aberdeen. Mortonhall’s Greg Nicolson was tied for 60th after efforts of 76 and 73.

Meanwhile, newly-promoted Glen got their campaign off to a solid start in the East Lothian Winter League. Skipper Innes Christie was unable to take anything from his own tie against youngsters Jack Valentine and Declan Henderson, but a home win against cup holders Musselburgh was just the start he was looking for.

Dunbar won their opening tie at home to Gifford in the only Second Division match to be played on the opening weekend.
