Lothians star Stephen Gallacher has jumped two places to world No.37 after producing his career-best performance in one of the WGC events.
The 39-year-old is also closing in on one of the automatic Ryder Cup spots on the back of finishing joint-sixth behind American Patrick Reed in the Cadillac Championship in Miami.
Gallacher, who dropped just one shot in his final 40 holes on the Blue Monster at Doral, is up to eighth on the world points list and now sits tenth on the European one after picking up a cheque for close to $250,000..
The top four on the European list after the Italian Open in August will secure spots at Gleneagles with five getting into Paul McGinley’s team off the world standings.
Both are now a realistic target for Gallacher since he transformed his season after becoming the first player in the event’s 25-year history to defend the title in the Dubai Desert Classic last month.
That lifted him to 39th in the world and now Gallacher’s latest jump - he just one spot behind former world No 1 Lee Westwood -has also cemented his spot in next month’s Masters.
The final batch of invitations are handed out at the end of the month and the Bathgate man now knows he can’t be knocked out of the top 50 before then.
“I’m happy - very happy,” declared Gallacher after signing off with a three-under-par 69 to finish the tournament on one-over - five behind winner Reed.
“I played good all week and today I played great,” he added, admitting it was nice to know that his first appearance at Augusta National was now wrapped up.
“Lying 39th, I was trying to stay in the top 50 until the end of the month to cement my Masters spot so hopefully that will do it now.”
