Stuart Smith rolled back the years to help Duddingston inflict a rare defeat for the Lothians against club opposition.
It’s nearly two decades since Smith won the last of his four Lothians Championships, but he delivered a vital point after being coaxed out of “retirement” by Duddy team manager Alan Banks.
It was a notable win for Smith, too, as he beat Allyn Dick, the 2010 Lothians champion and a two-times Scottish Mid-Am title winner, 3&2.
David Miller, the current Lothians champion, was also in the Duddingston ranks and he beat Kieran Cantley by the same margin. Other victors for the host club in a 6-4 win were two seasoned campaigners in Gus Santana and George Wither.
In what was their final trial match before opening the season against Stirlingshire, Jordyn Rhind and Connor Farrell were the only two winners for the LGA.
Results (Duddingston names first): D Miller bt K Cantley 3&2; C Scott halved with A Blaney; S Smith bt A Dick 3&2; P Heggie halved with R Thomson; M Hymers lost to J Rhind one hole; G Wither bt G Thomson one hole; G Santana bt C Deerness 4&3; S Maclean halved with G Corrigan; J Shepherd lost to C Farrell 4&3; C Hay halved with M Bacigalupo.
