THE new East Lothian Winter Golf League season tees off this Sunday with Gullane starting as clear favourites.
In last season’s record-breaking campaign, they won every one of their matches to claim the league and cup double.
But the champions won’t be in action on the opening weekend, leaving the door open for the other contenders to make an early move.
In the 1st Division, newly-promoted Dunbar travel to Musselburgh, while 2013 champions North Berwick are at home to local rivals Glen.
All three matches in the lower flight look set to be close contests, with Musselburgh Old at home to Castle Park, while Kilspindie and Tantallon travel to Haddington and Craigielaw respectively.
There’s a special significance to this year’s competition as the new season will be the 50th playing of the league. Organisers plan to mark the occasion with a one-off team event featuring past and present league players, due to take place at Haddington on March 14, 2015.
