Gullane’s 27-match unbeaten run in the East Lothian Winter League has been ended by North Berwick.

Making home advantage count, North Berwick defeated the defending champions 3-2 to sit alongside Royal Musselburgh at the top of Division 1.

It was the first time since November 2014 that Gullane had tasted defeat, which was inflicted in the end by Kevin Messer and Chris Brown as they beat Kenny Wright and Greg Houlston in the bottom match.

Royal Musselburgh bounced back from a defeat the previous week at North Berwick to beat Longniddry 3-2 and now top the table on points difference.

Next up for John Hall’s team, which has got three difficult away tests out of the way, is a home match against Gullane and a chance to stake their claim for a first league title in 13 years.

In Division 2, Craigielaw moved top with a second consecutive win, this time at the Glen. Gifford missed out on the chance for a share of top spot when they lost to Tantallon.
